A Macclesfield canal themed ride without using tow paths. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct visted on the Chirk 200km is a UNESCO world Heritage site. The Bollington Aqueduct is a unique grade 2 listed structure.
Starting from Poynton Church Hall where you’ll be welcomed with a cup of tea or coffee.
The early part of the ride heads towards Bollington Aqueduct. It has a stone rather than an earth core and is unique on British canals. Earth embankments tend to have a maximum slope of 2:1 The rock core enables an impressive steep sided profile of 1:1.
At Gurnet the ride passes where canal pioneer James Brindley serverd his apprenticeship. After the info control at Langley the ride passes the canal Reservoir and crosses the canal lift bridge at Oakgrove. The Marton control at 31km has a choice two cafes. We then head back to Poynton with an info control just before finish.
There will be a warm reception waiting for you at the finish along with hot drinks & food.
