Winnats Spring Again, we'll bring again ... no, not tulips from Amsterdam, but a new mid week Peak Grimpeur event from Marple for Easter 2023.
Meet at Marple Memorial park (outside the library and near the public toilets) for a prompt 10am start. We've been asked not to park in the library carpark, as it's in use all day by library users as well as visitors to the nearby Day-care Centre. There is a handily placed car park on Hollins Lane, just next to the fire station, or free street parking around the recreation ground nearby. Don't be late as we leave at 10am sharp, but if you're early, you'll find some of us in nearby cafes, or perhaps Costa Coffee, having breakfast or just a quick cuppa.
Winnats Pass, one of the Peak District's landmark climbs
The ride takes in the Snake Pass, and after crossing Ladybower, a climb towards Sheffield to the control at Low Bradfield with the option of visiting the School Rooms Cafe. The route heads south along the Eastern Edge of the Peak District to a free Control at the Eyam with a choice of cafes in the village square. Better still, use the eBrevet app. Return to Marple is via Castleton and the climb of Winnats Pass.
It's a strenuous ride, with the option of additional cafe stops at Grindleford Station Cafe or several cafes in Castleton.
The finish is at
Marple Services and Forces Club
.
Please note that we can't handle entries on the line, as we are starting from a car park, but it's really easy to enter the event, either
online
or through the post.
There is nowhere to leave panniers, so what you bring goes with you on the ride.
If the ride sounds a bit of a challenge, you can try the flatter alternative, the
An Icecream Wensdae 100
, which starts and finishes in the same places.
