Chirk Permanent

200km PARTY Peak Audax SR

This Perm can be ridden with the eBrevet. The Perm can be ridden on any date except where it clashes with the Chirk 200 Calendar version of this ride. The ride counts towards both the PARTY award , and the Peak Audax SR award .

This is a long standing and popular spring classic. Start from Poynton on pleasant lanes through Bollington, Prestbury and Siddington. Tthere is a useful early cafe (if you need it) at Church Minshull Marina.

The ride then crosses Cheshire on roads familiar with anyone who has ridden the Calendar version of this ride over the last 25 years, but we divert after Overton to take in the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a World Heritage Site.

A short climb

A short climb on an otherwise flatish ride

After a welcome pause at the Caffe Wylfa in Chirk, the return is through Overton. I’ve re-routed from an ‘agricultural’ lane near Holly Bush, which is now in a dreadful condition, before continuing through Shocklach and Tilston to Tarporley control.

The final leg uses the popular ‘Winsford bypass’, a short off-road stretch to cross the River Weaver in Vale Royal.

Note that our traditional car park off Park Lane (near Waitrose) is now Pay and Display. There is a maximum stay of 10 hours, so you’ll need to look elsewhere. Alternatively there may be free parking at Poynton Pool carpark .
