Cheshire Safari Permanent

150km PARTY

The Perm version of a popular Calendar ride. The ride counts towards the PARTY award .

It’s a one hundred mile exploration of deepest Cheshire, with a ride through Tatton park – watch out for the deer. We then head through the north of the county of Cheshire, famous for its cheese, so you should see dairy cattle. There is a potential cafe stop at Meadow Lee Farm in Mickle Trafford.

Then you will ride right through the middle of Chester on the Greenway, an excellent off-road route to reach Hawarden over the border into Wales. You then cycle alongside the River Dee to Garden City and Sealand.

The return involves going through the middle of Chester Zoo, where you may encounter camels or elephant. However, if the only exotic animal you spot is a tiny dog on its retractor lead, you might think it’s a Shih Tzu.

The zoo is followed by a ride though Delamere Forest, which is usually glorious whatever the time of year but probably at its best in Autumn.

A final stop at Great Budworth’s Icecream Farm, with a chance of tea and cake, should set you up for the run in back to Poynton. The cafe is shut between December-March.

Note that our traditional car park off Park Lane (near Waitrose) is now Pay and Display  There is a maximum stay of 10 hours, which might be tight for time. Alternatively there may be free parking at Poynton Pool carpark or on street parking.

Note that Tatton Park is closed on Mondays during October to March . When exiting King Street in Knutsford, take the next right on Mereheath Lane, then right at T and first right on Ashley Road to reach Rostherne Gate.
