From Longridge head north to Glasson Dock then south and west to Knott End on Sea for the ferry across the River Wyre to Fleetwood. The ferry crosses each way every 30 mins, approx 15 mins and 45 min past the hour in the summer and once per hour in the winter. The current cost is £2.00 with 50p extra for a bicycle and you will need cash! It is also tide and weather dependent so check the Wyre Ferry Facebook page for info on sailings. From Fleetwood join the Promenade for the next few Km south to pass Blackpool Tower and Pleasure Beach. Cyclists are allowed on the Prom’ but please be considerate of pedestrians, dog walkers and children. From Lytham turn east to Preston including a short section of NSL road/dual carriageway (optional adjacent cycle path/lane is available). Turn southwest at Preston for a longer section of NSL road/dual carriageway bashing (again with cycle path) past Southport to Formby services. Turn east here on much quieter roads towards the only significant section of climbing just beyond Parbold – the 110 m ascent of Stoney Lane! After cresting the top head to Frederick’s Ice Cream Parlour for a control (and lovely ice cream!). From here north on the A6 through Chorley to Preston, which you skirt, to end in Longridge. An editable routesheet and GPS link will be available after entry. Travel in either direction and start at any control or anywhere along the route using GPS or eBrevet.
Badge available. Cost will be £3.00 inc P&P. Email if you’re interested.
